Clay Cross - The Result"It's fantastic to see work starting on site - this is a hugely exciting time and the beginning of a new era for Clay Cross"
Work to remove more than 100,000 cubic metres of spoil - which has stood in the town centre for many years - was completed in December 2010, 10 weeks ahead of schedule. The project is being led by developers, GMI Property Company in partnership with North East Derbyshire District Council and Clay Cross Parish Council, and with £9.2m of funding coming from East Midlands Development Agency (EMDA) and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA). All ground remediation and infrastructure works, building and construction and engineering works are being carried out by GMI Construction as part of a long term framework agreement. GMI Construction Group was selected as the construction partner for the New Bridge Street regeneration scheme which includes a new 60,000 sq ft Tesco superstore, retail units, a bus station, a new link road and attractive public realm, incorporating high quality public art. With a proven track record of delivering high quality construction projects for over 25 years, GMI Construction was the ideal contractor to undertake the design and build of the new Eco-store, additional new facilities and highway works. David Thornton, Senior Project Manager for GMI Construction commented: “The scale of this project together with the short timeframe for delivery provided the team with an exciting challenge. Everyone involved with the scheme has shown such a high level of commitment to ensure the work was delivered safely and to a high standard, even more so when we accelerated our programme by 10 weeks.” The second phase of the scheme, which will create a new health centre and retail units, is due to begin later this year. |
