Under the proposals the Bridge Street link has improved traffic circulation round the town taking vehicles away from parts of Market Street and improving pedestrian access to existing facilities and the new retail development.

Clay Cross The scheme also includes a bus station which has brought public transport closer to the town centre.

Another key element of the development has rebuilt the impression of the town’s commercial and shopping centre, replacing the large area of unused grassland in the centre. The removal of run-down, unsightly spoil tips and remnants of former mine workings was a leading priority to enhance the environmental aesthetics and overall appearance of the town centre.
