Enterprise Inquiry Event on Supporting Local SME's
Along with local councils, business leaders and SME’s, GMI’s Nick Shepherd presented a case study on how GMI Construction are leading the way in bringing carbon neutral and sustainability in its future construction and development projects. GMI Construction were asked to present a case study to all attendees on how it is supporting small business in the community to work to achieving BS 8555 and ISO 14001 environmental accreditation. GMI are working in partnership with CO2 Sense, Groundworks, BiTC and European Union to support small businesses. Nick Shepherd stated “It is important that we recognise the significance of our smaller supply chain partners/businesses. They have provided a successful service to GMI over the last 25 years. We now, in turn, want to support them for the next 25 years in ensuring they do not get left behind as the construction sector develops its future carbon reduction”. Increasing legislation, rising resource costs and supply chain pressures are the drivers encouraging business to adopt more sustainable practices. The Environmental Management systems (EMS) project developed and supported by Groundwork and CO2 Sense is one way larger businesses are helping SME’s to meet new accreditations and legislation. GMI Construction are working with five of its supply chain over the next 12 months with an aim to continue a roll out programme with other sub-contractors thereafter. |
