National Skills Academy
As part of the role as main contractor, GMI is committed to engaging in skills development and training initiatives as part of the National Skills Academy that the University of York has been accredited to.
GMI has teamed up with NYBEP, an accredited provider of education business services to deliver training and learning opportunities as part of the project. NYBEP advisors work with businesses on projects based in the North Yorkshire and York districts.
As part of GMI’s commitment to the National Skills Academy, a undergraduate student has already started work on the Langwith College in the role of Assistant Site Manager. GMI’s involvement has also extended to the STEM (Science Technology Economics Maths) fairs which Shirley Chan and Sue Ellis attended recently in York. These workshops involve local businesses creating bespoke educational sessions on a variety of topics from learning about animals, weaving materials in textiles and computer science programmes. The STEM fairs which are aimed at Primary School children who are due to start Secondary School in the Autumn term to prepare them for the next academic step.
We will also be involved in the Big Bang and Inspirations events. These are national events that celebrating young people’s achievements in science, technology, engineering and maths, and acts as a selection process for the best local students to be selected for the UK wide finals.
Sustainability in Action - CPD Event

On Friday 18th November 2011 a CPD (Continuous Professional Development) event took place on the Langwith College site, which was organised in partnership with NYBEP. The event provided teachers from across the York area with an opportunity to expand their knowledge on ‘Sustainability in Action’ and hear from the different professional guest speakers. |
