Thorn Lighting- The SolutionWorking in partnership with Thorn’s expert “lean” manufacturing production team and SCOPE management principles, GMI designed and built a new facility from the inside out.
Two months later in December 2008 and without dropping a single order Thorn’s entire production and manufacturing facility in Spennymoor was moved into the new building and declared fully operational.

Completed in April 2008, in just 42 weeks from start to finish, following extensive fit out and commissioning works by GMI. By October 2008, Thorn began the migration of its manufacturing facilities and teams into the new purpose built, state of the art facility.
At 450,000 sq ft the new custom built factory is approximately 75,000 smaller than the previous building. The solution comprises of a total redesign of the previous production facility layout, processes, operational efficiencies and allows Thorn’s manufacturing team to handle far great production volumes. Throughout the integration process, the facility operated at a record 98% efficiency with the existing supply chain operating without interruption.
